Anja Chong extended her gold-medal winning streak to three in the Games as the ice skating event concludes at the Ice Arena, Empire City in Damansara Perdana on Wednesday (30 Aug).

The 23-year-old secured the 1,000m short track speed skating gold, clocking 1:48.835s – leaving the silver medal to Singapore’s Cheyenne Goh who timed 1:48.907s while  fellow Malaysian Ashley took bronze in a time 1:49.321.

She won her first gold in the 500m short track speed on Tuesday (29 Aug).

Anja also led the Malaysian team to victory in the women’s 3,000m relay event. The team comprising Anja, Ashley, Nor Marissa Alia Ahmad Lokman and See Wan Ni clocked a combined score of 5:14.649s ahead of Singapore (5:18.122s) and Indonesia (5:24.052s).

“This is amazing. I won three gold medals in the SEA Games and it’s unbelievable,” said an emotional Anja after the medal presentation ceremony.

The Malaysian men’s relay quartet of Wong De-Vin, Ariff Rasydan Fadzli, Hazim Shahrum and Khairil Ridhwan Khalil also won their event when they finished their 27-lap race in 4:31.438, ahead of second-placed Singapore (4:37.113).

It was Malaysia’s 145th and final gold medal in the Games.
