Another change at the top of the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy

Wins for the BMW S 1000 RR in IDM, BSB, CSBK and MSC

 It was another successful weekend for the BMW S 1000 RR, with wins and podiums for the privateer BMW Motorrad riders on several continents. In Schleiz (DE), Markus Reiterberger (DE) celebrated his ninth win of the season in the International German Championship SUPERBIKE*IDM (IDM).

With this success, he re-took the lead in the 2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy. In the Superstock class of the British Superbike Championship (BSB STK), Alastair Seeley (GB) once more stepped onto the top step of the podium. In the FIM Sidecar World Championship (SWC), Finnish BMW duo Pekka Päivärinta/Kirsi Kainulainen claimed third on the podium.

Privateer BMW Motorrad rider Jordan Szoke (CA) continued his winning streak in the Canadian Superbike Championship (CSBK) and also in the Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSC), the weekend saw a victory and several podiums for the BMW S 1000 RR.

2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy

The race for the lead in the 2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy continues to be exciting. This week, Markus Reiterberger (DE / IDM SBK) is back in first position. With one win and one second place at Schleizer Dreieck (DE), he increased his tally to 256.67 Race Trophy points. Matthieu Lussiana (FR / MT1GP STK GP) dropped to second with 254.07 points. Canadian BMW Motorrad privateer Jordan Szoke improved to third with 241.67 points after claiming his fifth win of the season in the Canadian Superbike Championship (CSBK). FIM Superbike World Championship in Sepang, Malaysia

The tenth round of the 2015 FIM Superbike World Championship (WSBK) was held at “Sepang International Circuit” near Kuala Lumpur (MY) last weekend. Unfortunately, Ayrton Badovini (IT) of the BMW Motorrad Italia SBK Team had to face a setback. In Saturday’s free practice, he crashed heavily after a collision with another rider. The Italian suffered severe concussion and had to stay in hospital overnight for observation. The whole BMW Motorrad Motorsport community wishes Ayrton a speedy recovery. Gábor Rizmayer (HU) of BMW Team Tóth finished the races in 17th and 18th. His team-mate Imre Tóth (HU) crossed the line in 19th and 20th respectively.

SUPERBIKE*IDM in Schleiz, Germany.

Van Zon-Remeha-BMW rider Markus Reiterberger (DE) excited his fans with a great performance at Schleizer Dreieck (DE). The classic circuit hosted the sixth round of the 2015 International German Championship SUPERBIKE*IDM (IDM) last weekend. Reiterberger dominated the free practice and qualifying sessions with his BMW S 1000 RR, setting new lap records.

In race one, he was fighting an exciting battle with his rival Xavi Forés (ES), which was only decided in the very last corner. Reiterberger finished runner-up, only 0.077 seconds behind Forés. In race two, the privateer BMW rider took an early lead, pulled away and won with an advantage of over seven seconds. It was Reiterberger’s ninth win of the season. In addition to the pole-position, one win and one P2, he also set the fastest lap in both races.

With four races to go, Reiterberger leads the championship with an advantage of 55 points over Forés. As a result, he could win the title this coming weekend at the penultimate round at Assen (NL). Matej Smrz (CZ) of the Wilbers-BMW-Racing-Team finished the races fourth and fifth in the Superbike class (IDM SBK). In the overall classification, he was sixth on both occasions.

In the Superstock class (IDM STK), Van Zon-Remeha-BMW rider Pepjin Bijsterbosch (NL) was the most successful BMW privateer. He claimed ninth and sixth (15th and 13th overall). Lucy Glöckner (DE) finished race one in eighth (14th overall) on her Wilbers BMW S 1000 RR, but retired in race two. Vincent Lonbois (BE) also secured top-ten results with tenth and ninth (16th overall in both races).

British Superbike Championship in Thruxton, Great Britain

The prestigious British Superbike Championship (BSB) stopped over at Thruxton (GB) last weekend to hold the seventh round of the season. In the Superbike class (BSB SBK), Tyco BMW riders Tommy Bridewell (GB) and Michael Laverty (GB) experienced a race day of mixed emotions, which turned out well in the end. In a dramatic first race, Bridewell was fighting for the podium, when another rider crashed and dragged Bridewell down with him.

The BMW rider was taken to the Medical Centre but declared fit for race two. Bridewell took his chance and finished a strong fourth. His team-mate Laverty took the chequered flag in ninth in race one and then was sixth in race two. With their results, both riders improved in the championship and are in the all-important top-six. Bridewell is now fifth in the overall rankings, directly followed by Laverty in sixth. After nine rounds the best six riders in the championship will enter the “Title Showdown”.

Martin Jessopp (GB / Riders Motorcycles BMW) finished the races in tenth and eighth respectively. Billy McConnell (AU / Smiths Racing BMW) crossed the line in eighth and 15th. Lee Jackson (GB / Buildbase BMW Motorrad) also picked up points, finishing ninth in race two.

The Superstock class (BSB STK) also saw a dramatic race – with a great fightback by Tyco BMW rider Alastair Seeley (GB). From seventh he fought his way back towards the front and took the lead in the very last corner. He crossed the line in first, celebrating his third win of the season. In the championship rankings Seeley is the runner-up and has reduced his gap to the leader to 17 points. Hudson Kennaugh (ZA / Trik-Moto BMW) finished the race in fifth. In the overall rankings Kennaugh is currently third.

FIM Sidecar World Championship in Assen, the Netherlands.

87,500 spectators: the teams in the FIM Sidecar World Championship (SWC) raced in front of an impressive backdrop last weekend. The penultimate round if the season was held at the Gamma Racing Day in Assen (NL). It brought another podium finish for BMW Duo Pekka Päivärinta/Kirsi Kainulainen (FI / 44-racing). They crossed the line in third after a fiercely fought race.

In doing so, they not only defended second place in the world championship rankings, but also reduced the gap to the top to four points. Mike Roscher/Anna Burkard (DE / Roscher-Burkard-Penz13) were fifth on their BMW sidecar and moved up to fourth in the overall classification. The final two races will be held at Oschersleben (DE) in three weeks’ time.

Canadian Superbike Championship in Shubenacadie, Canada.

BMW rider Jordan Szoke (CA) continues to dominate the Canadian Superbike Championship (CSBK). The fifth race of the season was held at Atlantic Motorsport Park in Shubenacadie (CA) last weekend – and the winner was the same as on the previous four occasions. Szoke once more took the full haul on his BMW S 1000 RR from the Mopar Express Lane BMW Superbike Team.

He claimed pole-position, set the fastest race lap and won the race with a comfortable gap. It was his fifth victory of the season and the 50th of his CSBK career. The Canadian is on course to secure his tenth national Superbike title: with two more races to go, he leads the overall classification of the Pro Superbike class (CSBK PR) with an advantage of 91 points over his closest rival. These two races will be held at the season finale at Mosport (CA) on 15th/16th August. There will be another 108 points up for grabs.

Fellow BMW rider Michael Leon (CA / Royal Distributing Superbike Team) finished the race in fifth. In the Amateur class (CSBK AM), BMW Motorrad privateer Samuel Trépanier secured second place on the podium.

Malaysia Superbike Championship in Sepang, Malaysia

As a support series of the FIM Superbike World Championship, the Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSC) held its second round of the season last weekend on the “Sepang International Circuit” (MY). BMW privateers claimed one win and several podiums positions for the BMW S 1000 RR.

In the Superbike class B, Gavin Macdonald (GB) and Ahmad Abas (MY) rode onto the podium in second and third places in the first race. In race two, Mohd Najuib Alias (MY) finished second on the podium.

In the Superstock class A, Nasarudin Mat Yusop (MY) was second in race one on his BMW Malaysia S 1000 RR, while Hansur Rizal Nur Sastra (MY) was third in race two. In the Superstock class B, Muhammad Ridhwan Hussien (MY) was the most successful BMW privateer, with a win and a second place. Yung Pang Che (HK) also made it onto the podium when he finished third in the second race.

In 2015 the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy comprises of a total of 19 international and national championships. Participants in the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy can compete in multiple championships. The points scored in the different championships are calculated separately for each individual race series.
