Nabil Jeffri could not ask for a better start to his campaign as the PETRONAS Talent Development driver secured another podium in the opening round of the ATS Formula 3 Cup at the Etropolis Motosportarena Oschersleben in Germany on Sunday.
The Motopark pilot followed up Saturday’s victory to finish the 22-lap race second in 30’11.148s, a mere five tenth of a second to Lotus’s Markus Pommer who took his second victory for the weekend after Race 1 with 30’10.601s.
Nabil who earned pole for Sunday’s race having won Race 2 was hoping to deliver another win for the team but the 21-year old Malaysian was defenseless against his German rival who overtook from the inside at the first chicane on the 3.696 kilometre track.
Rounding up the top three was Netherland’s Indy Dontje with 30’12.505s.
“I had a smooth take off and managed to pull away immediately. But then I went a bit wide and that was the race for me. If I had kept my position and kept pushing, I could have hold off Markus because I had a better pace than him,” said Nabil who picked up 42 points from the opening round.
“But in general everything went well for the first race weekend of the season and there is still a long way to go. Hopefully I can deliver a similar performance if not better in the upcoming rounds and be in contention for the title,” said Nabil.
Round 2 of the ATS Formula 3 Cup will take place at the Lausitzring Circuit from 23 to 25 May.
