Vietnam head coach Nguyen Huu Thang said ahead of his opening clash against hosts Vietnam that they are definitely not the favourites from the group to advance.
Speaking at the pre-match Press Conference this afternoon, Huu Thang downplayed his country’s overwhelming confidence by saying that he would prefer to just take it one game at a time.
“I believe that it is better that we take it one game at a time. We will be playing against the hosts tomorrow and they will not be easy,” said Huu Thang.
“While we are confident, still we must also realised that other teams have made progress in the last year. And playing against Myanmar with a young team can be difficult.
“The good thing that we have going for us is that we have all available players. There are no injuries except for one players, so that is good.”
In the meantime Gerd Zeise, the head coach of Myanmar will be hoping that the fans give the team a chance and not shout at them like they did at the last friendly against Oman.
“The fans have to realise that we have a very young team with a average age of just 22-years-old when compared to our oppositions (Vietnam with an average of 28). So I hope that the fans will not shout at the players,” said Zeise.
“We had a very good preparation in Europe but the last two friendlies did not turn out well. But we are still hopeful.
“Vietnam is a very strong team so we have to prepare well to take them on.”
