It will be a teacher-pupil battle in Bogor tomorrow evening when Indonesia’s Alfred Riedl takes on Vietnam’s Nguyen Huu Thang in the first-leg, semi-finals of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2016 at the Pakansari Stadium.
Riedl was Huu Thang’s national team coach back when the Austrian had his first of three stints in Vietnam between 1998-2000.
“I know him as a player when I was the coach of Vietnam and he is a great guy,” said Riedl, at the pre-match press conference.
“We will be playing the game tomorrow night where we have to win and make sure that we do not concede”
Added Huu Thang: “I will take on my former coach tomorrow. That makes life really interesting.
“We played them twice this year and now we are playing them in the semi finals. So we really need to come up with something special.”
For the record, Vietnam hold sway over the two teams for the moment with one draw and one win from two games played in Surabaya and Hanoi.
Tickets for the clash at the 31,000 Pakansari Stadium have already been sold out since yesterday morning.
