The Asian Tour has a rich history with the professional game of golf in Malaysia through the staging of Asian Tour full field events, co-sanctioned tournaments with both the European Tour & the PGA TOUR and Asian Development Tour events.
The Asian Tour has been made aware that the staging of the Sarawak Championship has been brought in question with the Sports Commissioner’s Office. There has been an ongoing engagement with the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Malaysia, since the announcement of the tournament in July, and where we are now seeking further clarifications as to the matters raised.
We believe the sanctioning of our tournaments in Malaysia adhere to the regulations in place and in partnership with the domestic Tour.
The Asian Tour is focused on providing home-grown professionals with the opportunity to compete and develop their game, through the allocation of local playing spots, providing a foundation by which Asian players to access tournaments on a global stage.
