ASSAK stands for Alumni Sekolah Sains Kedah and is a cricket team of former students from Sek. Men. Sultan Ahmad Jiwa. The team was founded in August 2007 as an effort to reconnect the players of the team and to continue growing their love for cricket, long after their school years.
ASSAK Cricket Challenge (ACC) wants to continue the cricket tradition among former boarding school students of Malaysia, as most of them end their cricket days as soon as they complete school.
This tournament gives these former students the opportunity and the platform to get back into cricket, to compete with other teams as well as to socialize.
ACC hopes to see excellent and experienced players to emerge from the tournament – and possibly have some players be selected to represent Malaysia one day. This tournament is also an effort to bring cricket further, and to develop its growth here in Malaysia, especially among the former boarding school students.
The Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) is stepping in as the coordinator of the championship. We will look into the technical aspects of the games, arrange a suitable format for the matches and manage the whole event. We have selected experienced match officials to govern the game and have decided on a format specifically for this tournament, to better suit the participating age group – considering that the oldest alumni member to have participated in this tournament was 54 years old.
MCA and ASSAK have agreed to format the games as follows: 5 bowls per over, 20 overs per innings and 11 players a team, with some matchdays ending at4.00am.
Batsmen may also be replaced with another batsman if he has batted for more than 10 overs.
To make the matches more interesting, KASEL Sports a renowned global supplier of cricket equipment, will be giving RM6 for every boundary-6, and RM50 KASEL vouchers to any batsman that hits the KASEL A-board.
