PETRONAS Raceline Malaysia - Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman(right) & Hafizh Syahrin

Malaysian Moto2 rider, Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman has cautioned against any high expectations in the French Grand Prix as he registered at the lower end of the first practice session on Friday.

Held at the legendary Le Mans Circuit, Azlan of Idemitsu Honda Team Asia rider completed FP1 32nd with ‘1’41.426s one spot below compatriot, Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah.

Meanwhile Spain’s Tito Rabat of Marc VDS Racing Team topped the opening practice with 1’38.446s followed by Alex de Angelis and Thomas Luthi with 1’38.631s and 1’38.888s respectively.

“This is my first time racing here at Le Mans. I think it’s quite normal to be a bit slow in the first practice because I have yet to understand the layout. We will certainly improve as the race weekend progresses,” said Azlan.

Besides this being his first time racing on the 4.18 kilometre circuit, the unpredictable weather will also be among Azlan’s concern this weekend.

“Le Mans is considered as one of the most unpredictable races on the calendar. It can be dry during practice and qualifying but on race day it might just rain, you can never tell. So it is very important to manage expectations here,” he said.
