First there was Zulfahmi Khairuddin who hit the headlines as the second Malaysian rider to compete as a full-season rider in the World Championships. Very quickly, Zulfahmi was followed by other headliners such as Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman, Khairul Idham Pawi, and Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah.
While the riders on the international scene continue to ply their race crafts against the best riders on the regional and international stage, the talent mill back home that is the Malaysian Cub Prix Championship continues to serve up more exciting new names. Over the past few years, Kasma Daniel Kasmayuddin had been touted as a distinct possibility as he dominated the Malaysian Cub Prix Championship in style.
In 2018, another young rider is beginning to make his presence felt. Unlike Kasma who’s domination started in the national championship series, Azroy Hakeem Anuar has begun to impress industry watchers at the Asian level.
The Honda rider had been logging in creditable results from the SuperSports 600cc category of the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship. Despite his rookie status in the blue-riband class of the Asian series, Azroy had proven his mettle by consistently finishing among the top 10.
Back home, the young rider had been tasked with the responsibility as lead rider for team Idemitsu Honda Givi Yuzy Racing. With Zaqhwan Zaidi focused on the All Japan this season, Azroy spearheaded the team’s efforts in the competitive CP150. After three rounds, the results have been encouraging. Azroy had succeeded in muscling his way into the top ten rankings even though the CP150 podium remains elusive.
As the championship heads to its fourth meet this weekend, Azroy and the team are banking on Temerloh to turn things around.
“Azroy’s results have demonstrated an uptick in his learning curve. This is a particularly challenging year for him, as he no longer has the benefit of a senior team mate to rely on. However, Azroy clearly was up to the challenge, and we were pleased to find him mixing things up at the front end,” said team principal, Shahrol Yuzy.
“The Temerloh track had always been kind to the Idemitsu Honda Givi Yuzy Racing team. We have had enjoyed more than our fair share of success there. Now that Azroy has settled into the CP150 class, we’re hoping that the Temerloh venue will be the one presents him with his first CP150 podium.”
