What better way to celebrate the achievements of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) over the past year than to head to a well-known party destination like Bali?
And that is precisely the reason why the AFF Council has decided on Bali in Indonesia as the perfect location to give due recognition over the hard work of officials and players alike in glorious 2016 that was capped with yet another successful edition of the AFF Suzuki Cup.
The year 2016 has been another great twelve months for the AFF as it continued to play a pivotal role in moulding, developing but more importantly nurturing the young players from the region as they look to be competitive at the AFC as well as the FIFA level.
Last year, Thailand still dominated proceedings when they won three out of the five titles on offer – not including the AFF Suzuki Cup – when they took the AFF Women’s Championship, men’s Futsal and also Futsal Club (through Thai Port).
Australia won two titles in the AFF U19 and also U15.
It was one of the most competitive seasons in years which also saw Thailand and Vietnam making the cut for the FIFA Futsal World Cup in 2016 in Colombia.
And not only that, both teams also qualified for the Round of 16 which further proved that Futsal in the ASEAN region is heading in the right direction.
The AFF Suzuki Cup was the much awaited event in 2016 and would be the last edition which will see the current format being used.
Competitive would be putting it mildly and while Thailand may have won their fourth title to equal that of Singapore’s, there were several outstanding players which made the season, well in short, really understanding.
And that is what the AFF Awards will be all about tomorrow night here at the Sofitel Hotels and Resorts in Nusa Dua.
Who will get nominated and who will win?
It will be an anxious wait over the next 24 hours but it will be worth the wait.
