BMW Group Malaysia today announced the participation of former world number one Venus Williams and recent Australian Open finalist, Dominika Cibulkova at the fourth BMW Malaysian Open.
In addition, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), has also extended its commitment to the Malaysian Open for another six years.
Announcing the headlining tennis stars at Malaysia’s premiere tennis event, Sashi Ambi, Head of Corporate Communications, BMW Group Malaysia said: “With the presence of Venus Williams, Dominika Cibulkova, defending champion Karolina Pliskova as well as Wimbledon doubles champion and 2012 BMW Malaysian Open Champion, Hsieh-Su Wei, the tournament is set to serve up some scorching tennis matches in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.”
Sashi added four years ago, BMW Group Malaysia started supporting tennis in the country with hope of raising the profile of the game.
“We have the world’s best badminton and squash players and I believe that it is time we have a tennis player that is capable of competing at the international level.
“The BMW Malaysian Open provides the opportunity for our local tennis players to hone and sharpen their skill by competing with some of the best tennis players of the world. As they say in sport, if you want to be the best, you should train, learn and compete with the best!” said Sashi.
