Central Zone came out tops in the seven-zone inter-district tennis tournament organised by the Sabah Education Department Sports and Cultures Association.
The other zones were Sandakan, East, Interior, North, South and Head office Kota Kinabalu.
In the final Central zone defeated Sandakan by 3-2 in a tough and close fight until the end. Interior took third place after another close fight against West zone.
Sabah Tennis Association president Johnson Koh, who gave away the prizes,
called on the teachers, lecturers and principals to promote tennis in the schools and to scout talents from the schools.
“There are many teachers who are qualified coaches with level one certificates and they must make good use of them. Tennis in Sabah is on the rise and it is best to start at grassroots to develop the game further,” said Johnson.
“STA will always help on this matter and the association will help its affiliates to take the game to a higher level.
“Sabah must look for more Christian Didier Chins and Nurshaneem Shamsuddins to continue the process of having more CHAMPIONS.”
