Defending champions Selangor marched into the final in the 100PLUS National Junior Interstate mixed team championships, after taking an unassailable 4-0 lead over hosts Negri Sembilan in the semi-finals decided over best of seven at the NSCR Badminton Hall in Seremban this evening.
In the other semi-final, Penang beat Kedah 4-1 to set up a repeat of last year’s final against Selangor.
Selangor got their first point through their mixed doubles pair of Woon Man Hung-Teoh Mei Xing who won 21-12, 21-14 against Ahmad Shahfuad Muhammad-Kelly Siow Zhi Yin.
In the first boys’ first singles Eizlan Shah Misfahul Muneer defeated Mohamad Rausyan Shah 21-7, 21-13 before national junior R. Satheishtharan secured Selangor’s third point with a 21-12, 21-6 win over Ng Jun Yan in 24 minutes.
M. Thinaah, another national junior in the Selangor side won the girls’ first singles against Chang Yong Wei 21-8, 21-7 for an unassailable lead for the champions.
Penang raced to a 3-0 lead after winning the mixed doubles through Tee Yong Jie-Chua Cheah Lin and the boys’ singles matches through Tan Jia Wei and Sin Fong Hau.
However, Kedah reduced the deficit when Lee Zii Yii beat Penang’s Lee Shun Mei 21-9, 21-17 in the first girls’ singles. However, Kong Yi Jin gave Penang an unassailable 4-1 lead when she won the girls’ second singles against Perlay Tn Koong Le 21-19, 21-17.
In the quarter-finals Selangor beat Sabah 4-1 while Negri Sembilan were stretched by Perak before winning 4-2. Penang were taken the full distance by a gritty Malacca in their 4-3 win while Kedah outplayed Kuala Lumpur 4-1.
The 100PLUS National Junior Badminton Circuit and also the 100PLUS Malaysian Junior Golf Open among several youth programmes and competitions supported by 100PLUS, Malaysia’s leading isotonic beverage.
The others include the Minister of Education League Cup and also the 100PLUS Super Cup. 100PLUS is recommended by the National Sports Council.
