Datuk Lee Chong Wei reeled off seven points in a row in the second game for a 21-12, 21-15 win over Denmark’s Anders Antonsen in the second round of the USD1,250.000 Blibli Indonesia Open at Istora Gelora Bung Karno in Jakarta on Thursday.
The 35-year-old Malaysian who won the Malaysian Open for a record 12th time last Sunday stayed on course for his sixth Indonesia Open title.
In the quarter-finals, on Friday the seventh-seeded Chong Wei, will face Thai youngster Kantaphon Wangcharoen who came through a 21-18, 21-11 win over Denmark’s Hans-Kristian Vittinghus in 36 minutes.
Joining in the quarter-finals is Olympics mixed doubles silver medal winners Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying who showed fine form to dump Denmark’s Niclas Nohr-Sara Thygesen in straight games 21-15, 21-17 in 38 minutes.
The Thai Masters and US Open champions will face Malaysia Open runners-up and second seeds Wang Yilyu-Huang Dongping of China for a place in Saturday’s semi-finals.
Meanwhile, it was the end for Malaysia in the men’s doubles with the defeat of Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi. The Malaysians went down 18-21, 12-21 to top seeds Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo.
Both the Malaysian pairs in the women’s doubles also failed to make the quarter-finals after losing their second-round matches.
