Christian Didier Chin played his best tennis at the Kuala Lumpur Open Tennis tournament so far by upsetting seeded players more senior than him.
In the quarter finals, Christian beat 4th seed US based Christopher Oliver Lee 4-6, 6-0,6-4.
In the semis, Christian warded off 7th seed Palaphoom Kovapitukted of Thailand 6-4, 2-6 & 6-4 in a tense third set to make the final of the KL International Open tournament.
His opponent in the final is another Thai – Nuttanon Kadchapanan the 2nd seed.
In the ladies event, Sabah’s Nurshaneem Shamsuddin partnered Belinda Chai from Sarawak to beat Indonesian Diandra B-Angela Bung 1-6, 6-3 10-1 to enter the final. They will meet Selangor pair Elysia Wan-Elsa Wan sisters.
Christian Chin and Nurshaneem Shamsuddin were the gold medallist in the mixed doubles at the Sarawak SUKMA 2016.
STA President Johnson Koh is very elated with the improvement of both players, who are now playing in the open category and proving their consistency. Christian Chin at 16 can now take on more senior players not only nationally but internationally.
KL Open boasts 64 singles draw and is participated by international players.
