The time has come for the biggest motorcycle race in the world to descent at the Sepang International Circuit. Watch riders fight like gladiators, where each second counts to determine who will be crowned champion. It is time for the Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix 2017 which will be held over this three-day weekend.
The thrilling MotoGP™ Championship will take centre stage as the fight for supremacy continues at Sepang. Three-time world champion Marc Marquez, Andrea Dovizioso and Maverick Vinales are all tussling hard for the top spot in the penultimate race in Sepang, carving a script for some excellent racing.
Down in the Moto2™ class, nothing is decided yet as the race for the crown heightens up between Franco Morbidelli and Tom Luthi for another round before the finale in Valencia. Don’t forget, Malaysia will have added interest in Moto2™ as Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah and Khairul Idham Pawi will continue to fly the Malaysian flag high for the country.
In the Moto3™ class, with Joan Mir crowned champion, the battle for second and third are still wide open with Romano Fenati, Aron Canet and Fabio Di Giannantonio, the main protagonists. All hopes will also be on the shoulders of SIC Racing Team’s Adam Norrodin to do well at the home race this year as after showing good progress in the last few races. The race will also see up-and-coming talent Kasma Daniel Kasmayuddin riding on a wildcard ticket in front of the home crowd.
“It will be quite interesting this year on the track, as we have yet to crown the MotoGP™ champion. The race is still quite open when fans come to Sepang and I’m sure it will be the perfect ingredient for another thrilling race,” said Sepang International Circuit Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Razlan Razali.
“We have seen fans turn out in numbers these past few years to support the local heroes. This year, with four Malaysian riders competing in this world championship, we are excited to see the crowd cheering on with enthusiasm and high spirit. This will certainly help to boost the confidence in our boys and push them to achieve good results. Hafizh have shown excellent form with two podium finishes recently and I hope we can see another stunning display from him in Malaysia.
As a testament of support to the highly popular Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix 2017, tickets for the event have largely been sold out two months ahead of the event and SIC has also launched 2018 tickets in advance for fans to book their tickets early and not miss out on next year’s race which will be held from 2 to 4 November 2018.
In tandem with the excitement on the track, the ever-popular Mega MotoGP™ Carnival is also back during the high-octane weekend at Sepang, with 99 booths to explore! Besides motorcycle manufacturers like Ducati, Yamaha, Boon Siew Honda, Kawasaki, KTM and BMW parading their beautiful machines at the event, motorsport-related and lifetysle brands like Racing Boy, Petronas, Liquimoly, GIVI, Go Pro, Motul, and the title sponsor Shell will also have their offerings for visitors.
“The exhilarating Grand Prix weekend will not be complete without the off-track events. Apart from the Mega MotoGP™ Carnival, which is one of the cornerstone that defines the event, fans will also have the chance to meet their racing heroes face-to-face at several opportunities during the race weekend,” added Dato’ Razlan.
“Starting with the Riders’ Autograph Session and the hugely popular Pit Lane Walk both on Friday, fans can also get up-close with their favourite riders during the Riders’ Fan Forum on Saturday hosted by MotoGP legend Mick Doohan. These events have been tailored especially for the fans to enjoy their weekend on top of the racing.”
