The 2015 PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship heads to Melaka this weekend with the paddock expressing their support for Musashi Boon Siew Honda Racing’s Zamri Baba who was seriously injured in the Asia Road Racing Championship in Indonesia on Sunday.
Zamri was hit by another rider after he crashed on to the gravel bed during the SuperSports 600cc race at the Sentul International Circuit.
In a press statement released by Boon Siew Honda today, Zamri is still in the Intensive Care Unit and the team is staying back in Jakarta to assist with any logistical arrangements that may include the possibility of flying the 32-year old to a different medical facility once he has been given the release from the current hospital.
The team is also flying Zamri’s family to Indonesia to be with him.
Among those who sent their best wishes to the Honda ace were Malaysian Moto2 riders, Hafizh Syahrin and Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman, triple CP130 Champion turned team manager, Ahmad Fuad Baharudin and many more, including Zamri’s rivals on track, family, friends and fans.
Hafizh posted on his Facebook, “Zamri was like a brother to me, we raced, we win, we were teammates and crashed together. I hope he comes through and I’m really saddened by the news.”
Similarly, Azlan Shah wrote, “A friend, a brother, a rival and a role model, keep fighting like you always do brother.”
The fifth round of the 10-leg championship signals the halfway mark of the Cub Prix season that has seen four different winners in the premiere CP130 category with seasoned contender, Ahmad Fazli Sham of PETRONAS Yamaha Maju Motor leading the championship.
Fazli Sham who won the opening round (Temerloh), finished 14th in Batu Kawan, second in Muar and third in Terengganu leads the standings with 64 points, four points ahead of Zamri while Elly Idlianizar Ilias holds third place with 53 points.
