Former V.League champions SHB Da Nang were dumped out of the Toyota Mekong Club Championship 2016 when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Yadanarbon FC of Myanmar.
In the crucial match that was played at the Hang Day Stadium last night, Da Nang needed an outright win to ensure their place in the next round following their defeat to Lanexang United of Laos earlier.
But instead of taking full advantage of playing at home after midfielder Britez Ezequiel David had given them the lead after 22 minutes, they allowed Yadanarbon to come back.
Myo Zaw Oo volleyed home the equaliser just moments before the breather before they went ahead through Esoh Omogba in the 55th minute.
But a penalty just a minute after the hour mark allowed Da Nang to force a 2-2 draw after Gaston Merlo scored from the spot.
With Da Nang out, Yadarnabon will now play a decisive match against Lanexang United on 27 December to decide who will make the semi-finals with Boeung Ket Angkor FC of Cambodia waiting.
