BON GUAN YIK and P. Bhirentha were the surprised winners of the Boys’ and Girls’ Under-18 singles titles at the 100PLUS-BAM National Junior Circuit Zone B in Selangor.
Third seed Guang Yik won the boys’ crown when he outplayed Woon Man Hung 21-13, 21-16 in only 25 minutes.
Bhirentha, meanwhile, had a tough first game against top seed Lim Ann Chee before prevailing 21-19, 21-10 also in 25 minutes.
It was double heartache for Ann Chee as she and partner Azra Najwa Che Mohd Rozi, although seeded second, fell to the unseeded Payee Lum Peiy Yee-Teoh Mei Xing in the girls’ doubles final, losing 21-11, 21-10.
In the boys’ Under-18 doubles, third seeds Lew Ming Hui-Nur Izuddin Romsani upset second seeds Mahendran Selvaduray-Wong Wai Jun 21-11, 21-12.

Meanwhile, in Zone A, Natalie Wong stunned top seed Chua Cheah Lin in the Girls’ Under-18 singles final.
Natalie, who had not dropped a single game en route to the final, was made to work hard by Cheah Lin before finally winning 19-21, 21-18, 21-12 in 40 minutes.
To make it an even more memorable occasion, Natalie then won the doubles with Jolynn Lim. They defeated Cheah Lin and Lim Jee Lynn 21-13, 22-20.
In the Boys’ Under-18 singles final, top seed Tan Vi Hen was too good for Tee Yong Jie, winning 22-20, 21-13 in 44 minutes.
Leong Wen Hao-Loi Choon Yip then defeated Kevin Tan-Teoh Gen Sheng 21-9, 24-22 to win the doubles crown.
