I went, as a loyal football fan, to watch the opening Singapore Cup match at Bishan Stadium last night.

Wow, I got more than my fair share of thrillers, exciting end-to-end play-actions, and at the end of the match, I almost thought I was in a Little India situation, as pandemonium broke out.

I took a few shots from my little mobile, here and there, (see attached photos) as an ardent football fan, to capture the other ugly side of good ole S-League football.

The core of the matter: Hougang claims the injury-time free-kick, that led to 2-1 last-gasp winner, was hard-done. But I thought, from this video clip (see attached), that the last freekick was, strictly from a fan’s perspective, an unnecessary foul by Hougang No 17. His indecision possibly caused his team to lose.

Sadly, as always, the poor FAS match-officials (Referee G. Letchman, Assistant Referees Jeff Goh and Ong Chai Lee and Fourth Referee Farhad Mohd) were right, yet they got mugged, as these photos show…and had a hard time after the final whistle!

But, for better or for worse, this is the beauty, yet ugly, sides of football. Sometimes, you win, sometimes you lose. But most times, you must accept referee’s decisions and, end of the match, show some decent sportsmanship.

Yet, thanks for the Thursday evening show-time at Bishan Stadium, as a die-hard footballing fan, I got great entertainment from Home United and Hougang United.

Viva, lah, Singapore Cup!
