It’s all thumbs up for the Malaysian women basketball team as they cruised to a 75-52 victory over Taiwan Fo Guang University at the Maba International Basketball Invitation in Kuala Lumpur.
In the first period, both sides ended 16-15 in an evenly matched battle where the Malaysians had lead by a single point.
The contest between the two sides remained tight where they defended well to keep the score to a one point difference again in the second quarter.
Fo Guang University then shored up their defence to fend off the Malaysian onslaught.
Although Malaysia had a seven-point lead  going into the third quarter, their Taiwanese counterpart added pressure to claw their way back to a one-point advantage 28-29.
In a dominant display, Malaysia then stepped up the pace and turned the tide around to advance to a comfortable 13-point margin (55-42) at the end of the third quarter.
With four minutes down the clock of the final quarter, Malaysia proved too hot to handle when they extended to a run-away lead of 22 points (71-49). The game ended 75-52 in the final buzzer.
The top scorer for Malaysia was Yap Fook Yee who bagged 17 points for the team. Fook Yee admitted that it was a tough run but their perserverence and determination to win had driven them past their opponents.
“They were fast and they sure didn’t make it easy for us all. But we didn’t give up and we kept on pushing.
“This is a good encouragement for us all winning our second match in this event. We hope to keep it up and get the momentum going,” said Fook Yee. – BY ALVIN OH
