Singapore picked up their first win under new coach Fandi Ahmad when they beat Fiji 2-0 last night in a friendly that was played at the Bishan Stadium.
The team had earlier drawn 1-1 against Mauritius a few days earlier.
“We didn’t have the fluidity like in the first game (against Mauritius) due to too many changes,” said Fandi after the game. “(But) after the first ten minutes, we settled down very well, we created very good chances with Ikhsan running and Gabriel coming inside and Zulfadhmi as well.”
A blocked shot from Ikhsan Fandi after just 12 minutes allowed Hariss Harun to score while barely a minute later, Ikhsan latched on to a pass from Gabriel Quak for the Lions’ second goal.
“Fiji are a very physical team but the boys stood up very well,” he said. “We are happy we managed to draw them out because they are very compact, we got behind their lines.”
