Singapore picked up their first win under new coach Fandi Ahmad when they beat Fiji 2-0 last night in a friendly that was played at the Bishan Stadium.

The team had earlier drawn 1-1 against Mauritius a few days earlier.

ā€œWe didnā€™t have the fluidity like in the first game (against Mauritius) due to too many changes,ā€ said Fandi after the game. ā€œ(But) after the first ten minutes, we settled down very well, we created very good chances with Ikhsan running and Gabriel coming inside and Zulfadhmi as well.ā€

A blocked shot from Ikhsan Fandi after just 12 minutes allowed Hariss Harun to score while barely a minute later, Ikhsan latched on to a pass from Gabriel Quak for the Lionsā€™ second goal.

ā€œFiji are a very physical team but the boys stood up very well,ā€ he said. ā€œWe are happy we managed to draw them out because they are very compact, we got behind their lines.ā€
