Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani triumphed at the Arctic Open 2024 in Vantaa, Finland as they emerged as one of the rare Men’s Doubles pair to complete the BWF World Tour Series collection.

The collection – which is winning at all BWF World Tour Super 300, 500, 750, and 1000 – is not obtained by all the world’s elite Men’s Doubles players.

By winning the Arctic Open final (Super500) when they beat the tournament top seed Kim Astrup-Anders Rasmussen from Denmark, they have equaled the record of Fajar Alfian-Rian Ardianto from Indonesia.

The Malaysian pair had already won the German Open 2022 (Super 300), US Open 2023 (Super 300), Japan Open 2024 (Super 750), and China Open 2024 (Super 1000).

In the final of the Arctic Open 2024 that was played at the Vantaan Energia Areena, Fei-Din fought back from 15-21 defeat in the first game to beat the Danish duo 21-15, 21-19.

Malaysia’s hope of a second title at the Arctic Open was dashed when Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah failed to get the better of the tournament top seed Liu Shengshu-Tan Ning from China.

The Chinese pair, who had won the Malaysia Open, Indonesia Masters and also the Japan Open earlier this year, were well composed in the final as they walked away 21-12, 21-17 in a duel that lasted close to an hour.

China then went on to take a second title in the Mixed Doubles through another top seed Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping.

However the current world No. 3, who had hauled in ten BWF World Tour titles in the last two years, were made to work hard for their win when they were fully stretched by another Chinese pair – Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin – as the battle dragged on for just over an hour.

Yan Zhe-Dong Ping had taken the first set 21-18 only to suffer a 6-21 defeat in the second set.

However, Yan Zhe-Dong Ping showed their quality with a 21-15 victory in the third set to secure the crown in front of the Finnish crowd.

China then wrapped up their third title in Finland when second seeded Han Yue triumphed over Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon in the final of the Women’s Singles.

The defending champion easily defended against Ratchanok 21-10, 21-13 to defend the title she won last year in 39 minutes.

In the meantime, All England champion Jonatan Christie from Indonesia’s hope of adding a second BWF World Tour title fell short when he fell in the final of the Men’s Singles against Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen.

Seventh-seeded Tien Chen overcame the fifth-ranked Jonatan 21-18, 21-17 for his second BWF World Tour title this year.
