SOME 15,000 fitness enthusiasts thronged the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil as early as 6am on Saturday (12 Aug) in the final chapter of the Kuala Lumpur Fit Malaysia Programme.
The participants were joined by Youth and Sports Minister YB Brig Gen Khairy Jamaluddin, Sports Ministry deputy Secretary General Nik Abd Kadir Nik Mohammad, Olympic Council of Malaysia president Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Jaafar, Kuala Lumpur 2017 SEA Games Malaysian contingent chef de mission Datuk Marina Chin and OCM Secretary General Datuk Low Beng Choo.
The event was held in in conjunction with the arrival of the KL2017 Torch which arrived at Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil. The torch will be carried into the Bukit Jalil National Stadium for the lighting of the KL2017 Games cauldron the 19 August.
“Fit Malaysia Kuala Lumpur programme is held to create and build a powerful momentum towards the SEA Games Kuala Lumpur 2017. As such, I call upon all Malaysians to come together and support our athletes during the Games,” said YB Brig Gen Khairy when addressing the enthusiastic crowd at the venue.
The early morning event started with the 30km and 10km cycling race but it was the ‘Zumba Dance’ that drew much excitement from participants.
This was followed by ISN Chief Executive Officer YBhg Dato’ Dr Khairi Zawi flagging off the 10km and 5km Open category run race.
The Malaysian gymnastic team that is set to dazzle in the Games, also joined the fun. Among other events held at the spacious car park of the National Stadium are Muay Thai, netball, aerobic gymnastics, boxing, Watt Bike Race (National cyclist Azizulhasni Awang’s bicycle simulator) and promotional events by McDonalds and 100Plus.
YB Brig Gen Khairy also appealed to local fans and sporting enthusiasts to commute to the various competition venues by using RapidKL transportation services such as LRT, BRT and MRT Line.

FIT Malaysia Kuala Lumpur menarik penyertaan seramai lebih 15,000 peserta yang hadir awal pagi untuk turut bersama Menteri Belia dan Sukan YB Brig Jen Khairy Jamaluddin menjayakan acara akhir itu di Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil pada Sabtu (12 Ogos).
Semangat bersukan nyata menyerlah dengan kehadiran Timbalan Ketua Setiausaha Kementerian Belia dan Sukan Nik Abd Kadir Nik Mohammad, president Majlis Olimpik Malaysia (MOM) Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Jaafar, ched de mission kontinjen Malaysia ke Sukan SEA Kuala Lumpur 2017 Datuk Marina Chin dan Setiausaha Agung MOM Datuk Low Beng Choo yang menyertai ribuan rakyat membangkitkan semangat “Bangkit Bersama” menjelang temasya pada 19 Ogos ini.
Terdahulu, Obor KL2017, yang telah menjelajah ke seluruh pelosok negara sejak 90 hari lepas, tiba di perkarangan Axiata Arena di Bukit Jalil dengan disambut oleh YB Brig Jen Khairy. Obot KL2017 selepas ini akan dibawa masuk ke Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil bagi upacara menyalakan Obor utama temasya pada 19 Ogos nanti.
“Fit Malaysia Kuala Lumpur merupakan program yang dicetuskan untuk mewujud dan membina momentum ke arah Sukan SEA KL2017 yang menjadi program sukan terbesar kita tahun ini.
“Saya menyeru agar semua rakyat Malaysia bersatu dan bersama menyokong atlet negara sepanjang temasya nanti,” kata beliau.
Bermula dengan acara berbasikal sejauh 30km dan 10km, peserta nyata teruja dengan aktiviti “Tarian Zumba” selain acara larian kategori terbuka 10km dan 5km.
Kehadiran atlet elit seperti barisan gimnas negara yag akan beraksi pada Sukan SEA nanti dan pelbagai acara lain seperti Muay Thai, bola keranjang, gimnastik aerobic, tinju, Watt Bike Race (simulasi basikal Azizulhasni Awang) dan beberapa acara promosi oleh McDonalds dan 100PLUS.
YB Brig Gen Khairy turut meminta orang ramai dan peminat agar menggunakan pengangkutan awam yang disediakan oleh RapidKL untuk ke venue pertandingan.
