CHILDREN under the age of 16 will enjoy free access to the inaugural EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM next week as part of efforts to promote the game amongst the youngsters in Malaysia.
With the EurAsia Cup being held at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club’s Garden course from March 27-29, which coincides with the school mid-term holidays here, organisers believe this will be a great opportunity for young golfers to watch the stars from Team Asia and Team Europe, who go into battle in the Ryder Cup-style event.
There will also be a simple contest run on facebook.com/asiantourgolf starting from this weekend until Wednesday for children below 16 to participate and contend for one of 20 spots available for an exclusive golf clinic with Team Asia’s Anirban Lahiri of India. Parents are allowed to participate in this contest on behalf of their children as well.
The clinic with the three-time Asian Tour champion will be held after the completion of play at Glenmarie on Friday, March 28.
Team Asia will be led by playing captain Thongchai Jaidee, Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Prayad Marksaeng, Siddikur Rahman, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Kim Hyung-sung, Koumei Oda, Hideto Tanihara, Nicholas Fung and Lahiri.
Miguel Angel Jimenez will captain Team Europe which includes Graeme McDowell, Thomas Bjorn, Stephen Gallacher, Joost Luiten, Pablo Larrazabal, Victor Dubuisson, Jamie Donaldson, Gonzalo Fdez-Castano and Thorbjorn Olesen.
The EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM is sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour. Professional Golf Malaysia (PGM) will act as the local facilitator for the event.
