ASEAN football notched another high this weekend when the Football Federation Australia play hosts to the 3rd Council Meeting of the regional body for the session 2015-2019.
It is the very first time that the AFF Council meeting is being held in the great outback as it is fondly known as following Australia’s entry into the Asian Football Confederation in 2006 and then into the AFF in 2013.
“Since Australia joined the ASEAN Football Federation in 2013, we have been warmly embraced by the football nations of the region,” said Steven Lowy, the President of the FAA in a welcome note.
“It is appropriate that Australia can now extend the same hospitality and warmth to our ASEAN friends.”
A whole hosts of event has been planned by the FFA throughout the weekend with the first on the agenda being the opportunity for the AFF Council members to witness a game of the Hyundai A-League this evening.
The match will be played at the Pirtek Stadium in Parramatta and will see Western Sydney Wanderers FC taking on Brisbane Roar FC.
The 3rd AFF Council meeting will be held tomorrow morning at 10am at the very same Four Seasons Hotel which the members have been very well accommodated in.
The same afternoon a Football Development Workshop will be organised to share FFA’s experience in organising the AFC Asian Cup earlier this year which they also won for the first time.
Later in the evening, the AFF Council members will be feted to a dinner and a harbour cruise on the MY Hey Jude Yacht.
