Spanish No.1 Borja Golan has confirmed that he will defend his title at this year’s AJ Bell ESF European Individual Closed Squash Championships to be staged at the David Ross Sports Village at the University of Nottingham from the 24th to 27th August.

The 34-year-old produced a sensational 82-minute 10-12 11-7 11-4 3-11 11-9 victory over current World No.1 Gregory Gaultier in last year’s final to claim his maiden European Individual Closed Championship title.

“The European individual championships are an important event for all the players who will be competing in Nottingham this year because each will be representing their country,” said the record 15-time Spanish National Champion.

“I was lucky to win last year but there will be some very good players competing in Nottingham and I will just focus on playing my best and enjoying the challenge of defending my title. It will be the first major tournament after summer training so it will be a good test for everyone and I’m really looking forward to representing Spain at the fantastic new facilities at the University of Nottingham,” added the defending champion.

Hosted on behalf of the European Squash Federation in partnership with England Squash and University of Nottingham Sport, this year’s AJ Bell ESF European Individual Closed Squash Championships will mark the first occasion that the event has been staged in the British Isles.
