Both Laos and Malaysia suffered losses in their home friendlies with the former going down 4-1 to Mongolia while the latter conceded a 1-0 defeat to Kyrgyzstan.
In the match that was played at the National Stadium KM16 in Vientiane, the Laotians playing in their first match under new head coach V. Sundramoorthy, grabbed the lead in the 23rd minute through Bounpachan Bounkong.
But that advantage was to last just two minutes as the visitors then slotted home the equaliser off Munkh-Erdene Tsagaantsooj.
Mongolia came in stronger in the second half as they pressed Laos for three quick goals off Narmandakh Artag (77th minute), Janseric Maratkhan (77th) and Narambold Nyam-Osor.
In the meantime, Malaysia were punished for their failure to make their chances count when they fell to a 1-0 loss at home to Kyrgyzstan at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka.
Kyrgyzstan made one golden opportunity to score – which came on 68 minutes through substitute Sagynbaev Bezkhan.
Both Laos and Malaysia are preparing for the AFF Suzuki Cup next month.
