CIMB Group Holdings Berhad (“the Group” or “CIMB” ”) today held its first ever CIMB Cycle event for over 1300 participants, bringing together cycling enthusiasts and casual riders in the spirit of community building, fitness and charity.
The Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan, Y.A.M. Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir and Tunku Ampuan Besar Negeri Sembilan, Y.A.M. Tengku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud flagged off the event for the Endurance Ride (120km) and Challenge Ride (35km).
The event saw the participation of Tunku Besar of Seri Menanti, Y.A.M Tunku Ali Redhauddin, Y.A.M Tunku Zain Al-‘Abidin as well as CIMB’s newest ambassadors, national cyclists Azizulhasni Awang and Fatehah Mustapa.
Group Chief Executive of CIMB Group, Tengku Dato’ Sri Zafrul Aziz said, “We are pleased and excited to organise the first ever CIMB Cycle in Seri Menanti. Apart from encouraging fun, fitness and philanthropy, it also fulfils our aspiration to be a responsible corporate citizen by bringing communities together through sports. We plan to make CIMB Cycle a yearly event and look forward to having it at different locations within Malaysia and the region.”
Following the flag-off at 7.30 a.m., the Endurance riders rode through Kuala Pilah, Batu Kikir, and Simpang Petang, providing a good mix of flats, steep, and rolling terrains while the Challenge riders went through Seri Menanti for a shorter distance.
Seri Menanti was selected as it mimics one of the routes of the Le Tour De Langkawi. Cash prizes and trophies were awarded to teams and individuals who finished top three (3) and top five (5) respectively in both categories. Additionally, all participants who completed the race also received a finisher’s medal.
At the prize giving ceremony, Tengku Zafrul also presented a mock-cheque for the amount of RM120,000 to Y.A.M Tunku Ali Redhauddin ibni Tuanku Muhriz. The amount represented 2 part of the registration proceeds that was donated to Yayasan Munarah, a charitable foundation run by the Negeri Sembilan royal family.
In conjunction with the event, CIMB Foundation also donated 200 bicycles to students from low-income families within the Kuala Pilah district.
“I am happy we are also able to give back to society through Yayasan Munarah and CIMB Foundation through this event. I must thank not only the participants, but also our corporate partners whose generous contribution has helped ensure the success of our inaugural CIMB Cycle,” concluded Tengku Zafrul.
