Indonesia have started preparation for the AFC Women’s Futsal Championship 2018 that will be played in Thailand this year on 2-12 May.
A total of 25 players have reported for training in Purwokerto in Central Java under newly appointed head coach Kensuke Takahashi.
“The players have the potential but I think that they need to learn some basic aspect of the game which seems to be missing,” said Takahashi, of the players who were selected from the Women Pro Futsal League 2018.
“To be able to compete at the international level, the players will need to improve their fitness as well as increasing the intensity of their game. And that is something which we will introduce to their training on a gradual basis.”
For the tournament proper, Indonesia have been placed in Group A against hosts Thailand, Macau and Hong Kong.
Group B are Malaysia, Vietnam, Chinese Taipei and Bangladesh while Group C are Japan, China, Bahrain and Lebanon.
Group D will see Iran, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan complete the groupings.
