The FA of Indonesia (PSSI) have decided to postpone the top level Indonesia League 1 indefinitely.
This follows the death of a fan – Haringga Sirila – prior to the match between Persib Bandung and Persija Jakarta at the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium in Bandung on Sunday.
The decision was reached at the PSSI Exco meeting last night alongside league organisers PT Liga Indonesia Baru and also the various clubs.
“PSSI are working hard to find the solution that happened in Bandung. We are forming an investigation team to look into this issue and where the PSSI Disciplinary Committee will also be looking into this problem,” said PSSI President Edy Rahmayadi.
“We are suspending the League 1 for now. We cannot say when the league will resume. Why did we decide to stop the league? This is our proactive way to show that we are serious in handling this issue and also our sympathy and respect for the victim.”
Edy said that the PSSI will also be in consultation with AFC and also FIFA, other than BOPI (Indonesia’s Professional Athletes Board) and also the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports.
