The Malaysian men’s hockey team will play a total of six friendlies-test matches against their Japanese counterparts which will begin in two days in Gifu.
All matches will be played at the Gifu Green Stadium.
A total of 20 players will be heading to Japan this week although among the notable absentees were S. Kumar (injured), Faiz Helmi Jali (exams), Fitri Saari (exams) and Shahril Saabah (family commitments).
The dates of the matches are as follows:
8 June – Friendly (Gifu Green Stadium)
9 June – Friendly (Gifu Green Stadium)
11 June – Test (Gifu Green Stadium)
12 June – Test (Gifu Green Stadium)
14 June – Friendly (Gifu Green Stadium)
15 June – Friendly (Gifu Green Stadium)
An umpire will be accompanying the team to officiate in both test matches.
The umpire selected by MHC to be on this tour is Muhammad Rais Zakaria.
He will also be an umpire at the upcoming Sultan of Johor Cup. This is part of MHC’s initiative to assist in the development of umpires.
