Last year’s runners-up Johor picked up their second win in Group B of the Under-16 Girls’ team of the 100PLUS National Interstate Under 12 & 16 Team Championships 2024 that is being held at the Penang Badminton Association (PBA) Hall.
The southerners, who edged Terengganu 2-1 yesterday, followed it up this afternoon when they beat another East Coast side Kelantan by the same scoreline.
Chen Siew Siew had given Johor the best of start in the Girls’ Singles when she took just under half an hour to dispose of Kelantan’s Alya Najwa Mohd Hasri 21-14, 23-21.
Auni Fatihin Azuan-Low Zi Yu then followed it up with Johor’s second point in the Girls’ Doubles to make short work of Nur Damia Qaisara Mohd Asri-Teyun Eunice Zi Yi 21-5, 21-8 in just twenty minutes.
Kelantan got their point in their second exchange in Group B through the Girls’ Singles with Zafirah Izza Mohd Zamlee overcoming Nur Syasya Safrina Khairul Anuar 21-11, 21-13.
Johor will complete their fixtures tomorrow when they take on current Group B leaders Pahang, who were also two out of two winners.
It will also be a big day for defending champions Penang tomorrow in Group A of the U16 Girls’ team considering that they had started their campaign with a 2-1 loss to Sabah yesterday.
And with Sabah conceding to a comprehensive 3-0 loss to Perak today, tomorrow’s match will be decisive for the home team indeed.
Perak was in no compromising today when Mun Lee delivered the first point in the Girls’ Singles with a 21-13, 22-20 win over Saidatul Saadiah Muhammad in 39 minutes.
The second point for Perak was won by A Baavanya-Balqis Safia Zahra Mohd Zain in the Girls’ Doubles when they were made to work for their 21-16, 14-21, 21-12 victory over Nursyafiqah Abdullah-Lim Ke Xuan that took almost an hour to complete.
Nur Aina Maisarah Muhammad Hatta then completed the rout with a 21-9 21-12 win over Farizah Wirdani.
