The Johor state government plans to build a track and field stadium here to meet the needs of sporting events.
State Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Datuk Zulkurnain Kamisan said the stadium, to be build in Taman Mount Austin, will accommodate the 2020 Malaysia Games.
“We are in the final stage of discussions (on the project) with Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor (KPRJ) Sdn. Bhd,” he told reporters after opening a Sports Infrastructure Development Workshop for the 2020 Malaysia Games, here today.
Johor will be hosting the 2020 Malaysia Games.
Asked about the project’s cost, he said it is still under discussion with KPRJ as it also involves other projects in Taman Mount Austin.
The stadium with 5,000 permanent seats and 20,000 removable seats will be used for the opening ceremony of the 2020 Malaysia Games.
Zulkurnain said in addition, other facilities such as a games village is also in the pipeline as the Johor government wants to provide comfort to the athletes and officials.
The workshop organised jointly by the Johor Sports Council and the National Sports Council was attended by 60 participants from sports association in preparation for the 2020 Malaysia Games. –BERNAMA
