FOR the first time ever, two players were awarded the title after heavy rain brought an abrupt end to the event at Kinrara Golf Club in Puchong today.
R. Nachimuthu and S. Sivachandran – who finished tied at the top of the leaderboard were declare joint winners.
Nachimuthu, who came into the last round with a one-stroke lead, shot a four-under 67, and Siva fired his second 66 of the RM160,000 tournament, to finish on 12-under 272.
Danny Chia, who is working his way back to top form after missing the second half of last season with a neck and shoulder injury, registered a third successive round in the 60s (68) to finish joint third with Khor Kheng Hwai (69) three strokes off the lead on 275.
Hans Jamil, who claimed the Damai Laut crown last month, shot a fine 66 of his own and was tied for fifth with Airil Rizman (67) another two shots back on 277.
Zurie Harun also shot a five-under 66 and was joint seventh with Arie Irawan (73) on 279, while Akhmal Tarmizee (73) and Iain Steel (74) were tied for ninth on 280.
Speaking after he collected his share of RM22,640 for emerging a joint winner, Siva said he was happy with his performance this week, but lamented the fact they could decide the title either way because of the rain.
“That is how the tournament ended so we have to accept it like that,” he said.
“So far as my game is concerned, I am happy with how I played here at Kinrara. I had three rounds in the 60s and two of those were 66s, so I know I’m hitting the ball well and putting well too,” added the player who last won at Kelantan last season.
“With this form I will be looking forward to going to Impian (Golf & Country Club) in three weeks”
The PGM Tour’s next stop is the Impian Closed Championship at Impian Golf & Country Club in Kajang from April 9-12.
