Sepang International Circuit (SIC) today concluded its final selection in its search for 10 fresh faced karters to compete fully sponsored in the SIC X30 National Karting Series.
20 drivers with the ages of 8 – 12 years competed in the SIC X30 shoot out. 10 highly promising drivers were selected after a two-day trial under the supervision of SIC Head of Four Wheel Talent Development Alex Yoong. The 10 talented drivers are Putera Alex Qiefli Esam, Putera Haikal Hakeem Halim, Aldrin Jiacheng Foo Cabiles, Putera Hani Imran Halim, Raja Ariff Raja Azmi, Sophia Zara Mustaffa Kamal, Nurul Auni Nasharuddin, Ahmad Mikhael Ahmad Shareza, Adam Harris Jeffry and Hendra Ade Putra Niko Ode Priyanto.
SIC Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Razlan Razali said he was pleased with the talent on show at the SIC International Kart Circuit today. “We are excited inthis selection of unearthing raw young talents in the gokart scene. This reinforces SIC’s commitment in 4 wheel motorsport development. Under the guidance of Alex Yoong, we hope these young kids can be competitive in their first rookies season and progress further to the highest level,” said Dato’ Razlan.
Alex Yoong former Formula One driver and founder of Axle Motorsport who was selected to oversee the talent development program added, ” It’s always difficult to assess a drivers potential within two days, but I was very happy with the attitude of the young drivers portrayed throughout theshoot out. We will now see them developing further while working with their professional teams during the rookie cup. I have a good feeling that we have some serious talent here.”
“It went very well, drivers did really well and spent a lot of time on track in the race prepared karts and we got to see how they did,” he added.
All of the drivers participating were beginners and all were rookies to national level karting in 2018. They will be competing in the Rookie Category in the SIC X30 National Karting Series against drivers with similar abilities and experience.
