Leong Jun Hao faced little difficulty in making the third round of the Men’s Singles of the BERGAMOT KL Masters Malaysia Super 100 2023 here at the Titiwangsa Stadium.

After receiving a bye in the first round, the 24-year-old was fully tested by South Korea’s Choi Pyeong Gang in a battle that lasted a good 35 minutes before winning 21-13, 21-14.

“Certainly, it was not an easy match as the shuttlecock was a bit slow. Every point is tough as there were a lot of rallies,” added the 24-year-old Jun Hao.

“But I managed to control the game well today. Pressure is there for sure as I have my own targets to achieve.”

In the meantime, unheralded Aidil Sholeh scalped Men’s Singles fourth seed Huang Yu Kai from Chinese Taipei to book his place in the Round of 16 tomorrow.

The 23-year-old Aidil had beaten Yu Kai 21-15, 21-12 in the second round of the event after beating veteran American Mark Shelley Alcala in the first round 21-14, 21-13 in just under half an hour.

“There are areas for improvements for sure. My focus is on just one game at a time as I don’t want to think too far ahead,” said the Selangor lad.

“I feel good today and I hope that I can break into the top 70 in the world soon.”
