The writing was on the wall and it was expected as Tan Sri Annuar Musa withdrew his candidacy for the FA of Malaysia (FAM) hot-seat as president of the national association.
He was there “challenging” for the post with one intention – to gain publicity for his political ambition.
The Kelantanese is vying for the deputy president’s post in Umno. He also holds the post of information chief in the party. With the party polls scheduled for Saturday, it was just right for him to pull out from the FAM elections. The FAM elections are on July 14 at its congress.
With Annuar’s withdrawal, FAM’s incumbent secretary-general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin is the sole candidate as FAM president.
Hamidin was “handpicked” by Major General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, the Crown Prince of Johor.
Tunku Ismail called on the FAM affiliates to give their votes to Hamidin when the Johor prince quit the hot seat as FAM president in March – exactly a year after being elected.
With his wide knowledge of the sport, Hamidin is the best man suited to be the next FAM president, bringing along with him a bit of history as he will be the first person who is not from the royalty or a political figure.
Your pullout from the race for FAM president is much appreciated Annuar. It was just the timing everyone was waiting for you to announce the withdrawal. It came on Thursday. RIZAL ABDULLAH
