Justin Hoh, K. Letshanaa and Ong Xin Yee have eased into the quarterfinals of the 2024 Malaysia Super100 after they fended off some stiff competitions in their Round of 16 encounters here at the Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara.
The 20-year-old Justin, currently ranked the world’s No. 52, was fully stretched in his Men’s Singles clash against Shesar Hiren Rhustavito from Indonesia.
Justin had taken the first set 21-19 – only for the 30-year-old Shesar to fight back to wrest the second set 21-17.
But the fifth seeded Justin did not lose focus when he coasted to a 21-12 victory in the third and final set to set up an epic clash against the tournament top seed Chi Yu-jen from Chinese Taipei tomorrow.
Yu-jen had overhauled Malaysia’s Tan Jia Jie 21-13, 21-13 in 37 minutes to make the next round of the competition.
In the meantime, Letshanaa was barely tested after two days of competition in the Women’s Singles as she made the cut to the quarterfinals tomorrow with relative ease.
Letshanaa, who won the Sarawak SUKMA Mixed Team title with Selangor recently, dispatched Peng Yu-wei from Chinese Taipei 21-9, 21-17 in the Round of 16 duel that lasted just over half and hour.
Yesterday, the 21-year-old had stormed past compatriot Yi Xing Ung 21-10, 21-8 in a largely one sided affair.
In the quarterfinals, the seventh seeded Letshaana will take on fourth seed Asuka Takahashi from Japan, who overcame Han Yu-chen from Chinese Taipei 17-21, 21-11, 22-20.
On the other hand, Ong Xin Yee has also joined Letshaana in the quarterfinals of the Women’s Singles following her inspirational 16-21, 22-20, 23-21 victory over Lalinrat Chaiwan of Thailand.
XIn Yee is also in the quarterfinals of the Women’s Doubles where alongside partner Carmen Ting, they sidestepped seventh seeded pair from Hong Kong, Leung Yuet Yee-Ng Wing Yung 21-16, 7-21, 21-18.
