Kedah are back on the top of the Super League after a 4-0 whitewash of newly promoted Malacca United at the Darulaman Stadium in Alor Setar on Saturday.
A brace each by their foreign imports – Denmark hitman Ken Ilso and Brazilian midfielder Sandro da Silva Mendonca – did the damage in front of their 25,000 fans as Malacca are finding life tough in the big league.
The fans were treated to a goal feast after Danish striker Ken Ilso opened the floodgates on 33 minutes off a perfectly floated cross by Sandro. It was a much needed goal for the Red Eagles after Kosovo play-maker Liridon Krasniqi muffed two opportunities in the first 20 minutes.
Kedah fans roared and celebrated in the 48th minute as the Red Eagles got their second. It came via a penalty with Sandro making no mistake from the spot after Ilso was felled inside the box.
Sandro got his second and Kedah’s third on 78 minutes – after Kedah keeper Ifwat Akmal had saved from Malacca’s Sergio Aquero.
Ilso, who played for Tampines Rovers in the S-League last season, completed the rout when he powered home a header from a freekick by Sandro.
Felda United got their first win under new coach B. Satianathan with a 2-0 defeat of Sarawak at the Tun Abdul Razak Stadium in Jengka after a scoreless first half.
Argentine Lucas Cano scored the first in the 54th minute from an assist by Hadin Azman. Hadin got his name into the scoresheet in the 70th minute with a solo attempt.
It was another big win for Kelantan as the Red Warriors thumped T-Team 4-2 at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Bahru.
Kelantan had a hero in their Lebanese striker Mohammed Ghaddar who scored a hat-trick. He struck in the sixth, 68th, and 82 minutes with Khairul Izuan Rosli getting the other in the 75th minute.
T-Team got their consolation goals through Mohd Nor Hakim (46th) and Farhod Tadjiev (90th) minutes.
At the Selayang Stadium it was a red day for Selangor as Perak carved out a 1-0 win over the Red Giants.
It was sweet win for Perak coach Mehmet Durakovic who won the Malaysia Cup for Selangor in 2015 but was later dumped by the Red Giants last season although he had a contract until the end of 2016.
Selangor defender Ugo Ukah gave away a penalty for hands inside the box and in the process picked his second yellow card and was given the march orders for an early shower in the 66th minute.
National striker Zaquan Adha Abdul Radzak scored from the spot to give Perak the win. Perak had lost 4-2 to Kelantan at home in their last match.
