Just days after resigning his post as a Fifa Council member Malaysia’s newly elected King Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah did not seek re-election as the president of the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF).

At the AHF Congress held in Gifu City, Japan on Friday (Feb 22) Japan’s Datuk Fumio Ogura was elected as the new president of AHF while Al-Sultan Abdullah was elevated as the Royal Patron of the Asian body.

Malaysian hockey received a big boost when Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) vice-president Dato Manjit Majid Abdullah was appointed Vice-President (Special Projects) – a day after he was presented with a special award for youth development in Asia.

Manjit is also one of the brains behind the highly successful and much-sought-after Sultan of Johor Cup – an annual Invitational Under-21 tournament which has earned a place in the FIH calendar since its inauguration in 2011.

For the record, Manjit is also the deputy president of the Johor Hockey Association.
