UPHOLD the good name and image of the nation during the Kuala Lumpur 2017 29th SEA Games! This is the bold reminder to the 320 media volunteers who have been selected through a stringent process to carry out their duties throughout the duration of the SEA Games from 19 to 30 August.
The media volunteer group, fondly know as the WAU Factor team, comprises of media managers who will be stationed at the designated competition venues, media assistants and general volunteers.
“You are the our frontliners who will project the good image of the country, liasing and helping out the local and foreign media throughout the Games, ensuring their well being and providing assistance at the Main Press Centre as well as the venue media centres,” said Sabran Abdul Bahar, the deputy chairman of the Volunteers Corp for the Games.
Some 200 volunteers attended a special media briefing and simulation at the Main Press Centre at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Jalan Duta on Saturday (5 Aug 2017).
A total of 320 volunteers have been recruited to help assist the media operations throughout the two-week Games.
Malaysia Organising Committee (MASOC) Head of Media and Communications En Fahmi Omar and Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Communication and Multimedia (MCMC), Jainisah Mohd Noor provided brief outlook, expectation and tasks of the volunteers.
“As frontliners, volunteers need to equip themselves with complete knowledge about the Games and carry out their duties in the best possible manner to uphold the good name of Malaysia as host of this biennial event,” Sabran said during a two-hour briefing session.
The 320 media volunteers are part of the 13,000 WAU Factor volunteers selected by the organisers to help smoothen the organisation of Games which Malaysia is hosting after a lapse of 16 years.
Apart from housing the Main Press Centre (MPC) and the International Broadcast Centre (IBC), MITEC is also hosting eight sports during the Games — muay, fencing, volleyball, weightlifting, indoor hockey, gymnastic (artistic and rhythmic), table tennis and boxing.
More than 2,000 journalists, photographers and media representatives from written, electronic and digital media will be covering the Games.
