The USD 50,000 Jeonju Victor Korea Grand Prix 2014 in Jeonju City was marred on the last day of the tournament on Sunday when the women’s doubles final lasted only 15 minutes after Chang Ya-na and Yoo Hae-won were forced to retire against top seeds Lee So-hee-Shin Seung-chan due to injury to Ya-na.The top seeds were leading 15-8 in the first set when Ya-na picked an injury.
Ya-na and her partner Shin Baek-choel were also forced to concede in the mixed doubles final against Choi Sol-kyu and Shin Seung-chan – in the last event of the day.
Earlier Lee Dong-keun, the top seed in the men;s singles slogged for 65 minutes before defeating veteran Lee Hyun-il 21-18, 24-22 to clinch final and pocket USD 3,750 in prize money. Hyun-il took home USD 1,900.
The men’s doubles was also an all-Korean affair but top seeds Lee Yong-dae-Yoo Yeong-seong toiled for 50 minutes before winning 21-18, 21-19 to subdue Ko Sung-hyun-Shin Baek-choel, the second seeds.
In the all-Japan women’s singles final sixth seed Nozomi Okuhara defeated Sayaka Sato (seventh seed) 21-17, 21-13 in 50 minutes. Nozomi’s winning purse was USD 3,750 while Sayaka settled for USD 1,900.
