Indonesian head coach Alfred Riedl has decided to register one naturalised player for their campaign in the AFF Suzuki Cup 2016 in spite of the fact that the country has several others on their list.
Only midfielder Stefano Lilipaly has made the cut of 40 players for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2016 which will later be trimmed to 23 players before the tournament proper.
Riedl explained this week that the reason for just registering one naturalised player was made was because he had been disappointed previously.
“We only called on Lilipaly as previously, some had been disappointing while others were a little old for international football,” said Riedl.
Other than Lilipaly, Indonesia also have other naturalised players like Sergio van Dijk, Greg Nwokolo, Victor Igbonefo, Cristian Gonzales, Bio Paulin, Raphael maitimo, Guy Junior among others.
Lilipaly, who had previously turned out for the Dutch U16 and also the U17 teams, will join the Indonesian national side in time for the 4 November friendly against Myanmar.
