# First Community event in Kota Tinggi after the major floods in 2006-07
# Housing developer takes the initiative to bring people to visit Kota Tinggi again
# Some 3,000 set to compete in ‘Daiman Run@Kota Tinggi’ on March 19
A decade after massive floods hit Kota Tinggi steps are being taken to encourage people to revisit the historical district – starting with the inaugural “Daiman Run @ Kota Tinggi” on March 19.
The charity run is organised by Daiman Group, a major housing developer in Johor in collaboration with the Kota Tinggi District Council and the Kota Tinggi District Office – with all proceeds going to the Malaysian Red Crescent.
It will be an annual affair after this year’s run which will essentially cover Taman Daiman Jaya – a new township developed by Daiman Group, within a stone’s throw of Kota Tinggi town, about 42km north-east of Johor Bahru city.
“The ultimate goal is to make the event an annual affair bigger and better in years to come,” said Heng Song Teck, Daiman Development Berhad’s General Manager (Property Development).
“With the support of the District Council and the District Office it is our hope to extend the run to cover the iconic Kota Tinggi waterfalls and the town itself in due course.
“We want to draw people back to the town and enjoy the natural heritage, seafood and other attractions Kota Tinggi has to offer.”
Daiman Run@Kota Tinggi 2016 is open to the public from seven years and abover. There will be three categories – Open, Veterans (50 years and above) and Students (7 to 18 years).
The top three winners of each category will be walking away with cash prizes amounting to a total of RM12,800. All participants will also be given a finisher medal.
“Kota Tinggi has has grown and emerged stronger as a town for the people and this run will help them see the new environment created in the last decade.”
“For the first time since the devastating floods that wreaked havoc in Kota Tinggi in 2006-07, a major community service effort is underway to encourage people to revisit the town and enjoy its various attractions.
“This mass participation event will be the biggest in Kota Tinggi district after the floods of December 2006-January 2007
“The run on March 19th is to encourage the public to check out the town since the decade old devastating floods. Kota Tinggi has plenty to offer in terms of tourism and investment,” said Song Teck.
The “Daiman Run @ Kota Tinggi” will be a six-kilometre long competitive run, sanctioned by the Johor Amateur Athletics Association (Johor AAA) and some 3,000- odd people from all walks of life are expected to to take part, with attractive prizes for winners.
