# ‘It is like Korea beating Germany’ – Beom-geun on his winner against JDT

Malaysia Cup debutants MISC-MIFA pulled off the biggest shock in the competition with a 2-1 win over holders Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) at the Larkin Stadium in Johor Bahru in their opening Group C match on Sunday.

The defeat by the unheralded Premier League outfit came in the wake of the shock defeats of Klang Valley teams, 33-time champions Selangor and Kuala Lumpur at home on Saturday. Selangor was beaten 3-0 by another Premier League team PKNP (Perak SEDC) while KL were hammered 5-1 by Terengganu.

But MIFA achieved at the Larkin Stadium, the home of the Southern Tigers, left the 5,000 fans shell-shocked. JDT, as usual, played their attacking brand of football but a defensive lapse changed the scenario as the visitors grabbed the lead after 19 minutes.

Skipper Antonio Marcos, could not check former Liberian international Sean Sherman who used the outside of his right foot to curl the ball into the right corner of the net with JDT goalkeeper Farizal Marlias rooted.

Despite the early setback, JDT was still in control of the match although the visitors played five defenders. However, poor finishing denied the Southern Tigers from putting the ball into the opponents net.

JDT finally found the equalizer after the break and this came on 68 minutes via a penalty after MIFA defender was hauled up for hands. Argentine striker Fernando Marquez, a mid-season signing made up for his earlier misses by scoring from the spot.

However, another defensive lapse cost JDT dearly. L’lMam Seydi, who is on loan from Kelantan, beat two markers and set-up Korean midfielder Bae Beom-geun who gleefully placed the ball beyond the reach of Farizal for the winner.

“It is like Korea beating Germany,” said Beom-geun on his winner in a live interview on television.

In another Group C match played at the Darulaman Stadium in Alor Setar, Kedah could only manage a scoreless draw against relegated Kelantan.

In Group B it was a winning start for PKNS FC under coach Datuk K. Rajagobal when his side romped to a 5-2 win over Police at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka.

PKNS scored through Romel Morales, Daniel Ting, Faris Ramli, Rafael Ramazotti and Safee Sali while Police replied through Petrisor Voinea and Baqiuddin Shamsuddin. – BY RIZAL ABDULLAH
