Malaysia defeated Singapore by eight wickets to clalim the bronze medal in the SEA Games women’s T20 cricket tournament at the Kinrara Oval on Monday (Aug 28).
Set a target of 51 runs, the host cantered to victory with 61 balls remaining but not without losing the wickets of Yusrina Yaakop and team captain Winnie Duraisingam who scored 10 runs each respectively.
Opening batsman Christina Baret stood her ground with an unbeaten 22 and Mas Elysa four not out.
Thailand won the gold in a closely contested final against Indonesia, winning by 23 runs. The Thais were dismissed for 109-7 while the Indonesians, in reply, were all for 86 runs in 18. 4 overs.
Meanwhile, Malaysia reached the final of the men’s cricket T20 tournament following a seven-wicket triumph over Thailand on Sunday to finish top of Group B.
After dismissing Thailand for 77 runs in 20 overs, Malaysia reached 81 for the loss three wickets in 17.1 overs to keep alive hopes of adding to the 50-overs gold medal won earlier this week.
Malaysia, who trounced Myanmar by 162 runs in their opening match on Saturday, will meet Singapore in the final on Tuesday (Aug 29).
 Singapore finished top of Group A after beating Vietnam by 165 runs on Sunday having earlier thumped Indonesia by 95 runs.

Result: Malaysia won by 8 wickets.
