Former champions Malaysia stayed on course for a place in the knockout round in the Li Ling BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championships with a 5-0 whitewash of Poland in Markham, Canada on Tuesday.

This is Malaysia’s third win in as many matches, defeating Sweden 5-0 followed by a 4-1 win over hosts Canada in their opening two matches on Monday. Malaysia next faces Ukraine on Wednesday to complete their group fixtures.

Malaysia who won the mixed team title in 2011 in Chinese Taipei, played second fiddle to China in the last two editions. In 2016 in Bilbao, Spain the Malaysians lost 3-0 and last year in Yogyakarta, Indonesia it was a 3-1 win for the Chinese.

Against Poland, the Malaysians grabbed the first point in the mixed doubles with former world junior champion and recently crowned Youth Olympic champion Goh Jin Wei combining with Yap Roy King for a comfortable 21-6, 21-5 win over Julia Plawecka-Mikolaj Wrzalik.

It was also a stroll for Ng Tze Yong in the men’s singles as the Malaysian took only 22 minutes in his 21-8, 21-9 win over Andrzej Niczyporuk for a 2-0 lead.

In the women’s singles Eoon Qi Xuan, who surprisingly dropped a point against Canada when she was beaten 21-23, 21-14, 20-22 by Wendy Zhang, redeemed herself against Poland for Malaysia’s third point.

Qi Xuan romped to a 21-8, 21-7 win against Joanna Padedworny in 20 minutes before the men’s doubles pair of Chia Wei Jie-Chua Yue Chern made it 4-0 for Malaysia as they destroyed Andrzej Podedworny-Mikolaj Szymanowski 21-6, 21-4.
