# Malaysian men beat Sri Lanka 4-1 in their opening match in Group B
The Baby of the Malaysian women’s team – 16-year-old Goh Jin Wei – powered Malaysia into the quarter-finals in the Asia Team Championships in Hyderabad, India on Tuesday.
Jin Wei, the reigning world junior champion secured Malaysia’s winning point in their 3-2 win over Hong Kong in their opening Group A match. The win was enough for Malaysia to advance to the quarter-finals as Hong Kong had lost to top seeds China on Monday.
The Penangite defeated Ng Wing Yung 21-6, 21-13 in 26 minutes in the third singles after both teams were tied at 2-2 after the first two singles and doubles.
Earlier the Malaysian men’s team outplayed Sri Lanka 4-1 in a Group B match. The only blemish in Malaysia’s win was the defeat of Soo Teck Zhi in the third singles – losing 14-21, 17-21 to Buwenaka Goonathileka.
Other teams in the group with Malaysia are Japan and Nepal.
