JPV Marikina FC snatched the early three points in their homecoming match of the Philippines Football League (PFL) over the weekend at the Marikina Sports Center.
JPV Marikina jump started their campaign this season on a positive note with 2-1 victory against Global Cebu FC in front of their home crowd.
New signings Keigo Moriyasu and Ryuki Kozawa starred for the first time hosts in their initial triumph for the season while Dominic Del Rosario took the lone goal for Global Cebu.
JPV Marikina quickly asserted their mastery of their home field with Japanese midfielder Moriyasu slotting the ball home from beyond the box in the 13th minute.
The offense of Marikina continued working in the second half with forward Kozawa of Japan capitalizing on a breakaway attack in the 75th minute to sink the second goal of the contest.
Global Cebu managed to take one back before the end of regulation with Del Rosario’s well-placed free kick on the edge of the penalty area in the 89th minute.
Meanwhile, Davao Aguilas FC and Kaya FC shared points in their opening game of the season after settling for a 2-2 draw at the Davao Del Norte Sports Complex in Tagum City on Sunday.
Visiting side Kaya FC took control of the match-up early in the game with the 18th minute shot of Ghanaian defender Alfred Osei followed by Conner Tacagni’s strike in the 49th minute.
Davao Aguilas relied on the scoring prowess of veteran James Younghusband, who managed to score twice in the 51st and 58th minutes, to salvage a draw in their home stadium.
After the first week of play, JPV Marikina holds the provisional top spot with three points while Davao and Kaya follow closely on the second and third spots, respectively, with a point each.
